The Rose goes to the Proms

The summer proms event at the castle is one that is highly anticipated by all near and far, and never one to disappoint. Here at the Rose & Crown we didn’t want to be left out of the celebrations, and so we packed up our picnic baskets and set up camp at the Castle, taking 50 lucky guests with us as we went.

The evening began in the Yard at the Rose & Crown where we kicked off the celebrations. Guests began to arrive in their red, white and blue to be greeted by the beaming faces of Giles, Lee, Suzie, Sarah and Flic, who were waiting with a refreshing pint of Pimms, and Canapés all round. Top-ups were dished out while the kitchen put the finishing touches to our picnics, before we set off in search of the castle.

Once we had suitably wet our whistles, the gents were loaded up with the picnics and chairs, as we followed the union jack balloons through Warwick to the castle, where James eagerly awaited us! Our lovely guests set up their picnic areas while the team were on hand with glasses of fizz. Once the fizz was finished, guests were treated to countless bottles of wine, and beer and cider from our wheelbarrow come ice bucket, to add to the merriment of the evening.

After we were all settled in, the picnic cool boxes were dished out to each group. Hungry beavers were eager to uncover what was packed into those boxes. Our wonderful chefs had treated them to a selection of; Quiches, Cheese, Meats, fresh Bread and lots more, finishing up with the best of British, Strawberries and Cream.

Now that everyone’s stomachs were satisfied it was time to put away the picnic and settle in for the evening’s entertainment. The drinks were still flowing, as was the conversation, shortly silenced as eyes turned to the sky to witness the awe inspiring aerial display by the original World War 2 Spitfires. Shortly after ensued the delightful sounds of the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra led by west end legend David Firman, featuring the vocal styling’s of Lucy O’Byrne. Our ears were treated to a mix of popular classics, film themes and of course flag waving favourites!

As the evening drew to a close guests and team alike were up on their feet waving their union jack’s high in the air as we celebrated with Warwick Castle at the last night of the Proms. To finish up the celebrations, a spectacular fireworks display giving the perfect end to the perfect evening.  We packed up our picnic, blankets and chairs and headed back to the pub where of course the party continued! While our heads may have been a bit fuzzy the next day, we are certain no one will be able to forget their night at the summer proms at the castle and we of course look forward to next year!
